An old display case, found at the scrap market in Tiblissi, Georgia, was covered with gold leaf on the display surface. Placed in a brick arch in the courtyard of the State Academy of Art, the installation appears like an icon shrine.
The work is a metaphor for the situation of the people of Georgia. Of course, empty shelves or display cabinets are for residents of former Eastern Bloc countries a well-known image. The stark contrast, however, between the bitter poverty and absence of any material wealth and the deep immaterial values of the Georgian people, such as family, tradition, religion, is impressive. These values are symbolized by the precious leaf gilding inside. Which, however, can neither be touched, nor taken away nor eaten.

Eine auf dem Schrottmarkt in Tiblissi, Georgien gefundene alte Verkaufsvitrine wurde auf der Auslagefläche mit Blattgold verkleidet. Platziert in einem Backsteinrundbogen im Hof der staatlichen Kunstakademie, wirkt die Installation wie ein Ikonenschrein.
Die Arbeit ist ein Sinnbild für die Situation der Menschen in Georgien. Die leeren Regale oder Verkaufsvitrinen sind für Bewohner ehemaliger Ostblockstaaten natürlich ein bekanntes Bild. Hier ergibt sich ein starker Kontrast aus der bitteren Armut und der Abwesenheit von jeglichem materiellem Reichtum und den tiefen immateriellem Wertigkeiten des georgischen Volkes, wie Familie, Tradition, Religion. Diese sind symbolisiert durch die weltvolle Vergoldung im Inneren. Die allerdings, kann man weder anfassen noch mitnehmen, noch essen.
