Dignified halls. Long corridors. Superhuman proportions. The academy – built for giants.
The classroom of Gregor Schneider‘s students is the biggest in the building. Ceilings 8 meters high. Windows too high to look through. Dwarf perspective in the magnificent building.  A challenge to grow beyond oneself? What will expect you out there?
Julika Meyer and Moritz S. Binder play with expectations, dimensionality, fear of the future and the white rabbit of an artist career.
In the walk-in miniature model of the classroom, in a scale of 1:2,59 the feeling of being strangely misdimensioned recurs. The climb into the space/video-installation seemingly lets the visitor grow beyond herself, only to end in claustrophobic narrowness; transforms the visitor both into viewer and projection screen for insecurity and self doubt.
The installation “lower your expectations” was created in Professor Gregor Schneider‘s first year in Munich who generously provided the entire classroom for the work. “lower your expectations” was a cooperation between the academy of fine arts and the university for television and film Munich (HFF).

Fenster aus denen man kaum schauen kann. Zwergenperspektive im Prachtbau.
Eine Herausforderung, über sich selbst hinaus zu wachsen? Was erwartet einen da draußen?
Julika Meyer und Moritz S. Binder spielen mit Erwartungshaltung, Größenverhältnissen, Zukunftsängsten und dem weißen Kaninchen der Künstlerkarriere.
Im begehbaren Miniaturformat des Klassenzimmers, im Maßstab 1:3,59 fühlt man sich erneut merkwürdig fehldimensioniert.
Der Aufstieg in die Raum/Video-Installation lässt den Besucher scheinbar über sich selbst hinauswachsen, um in klaustrophobischer Enge zu münden; verwandelt ihn zugleich in Betrachter und Projektionsfläche für Unsicherheit und Selbstzweifel.
Die Installation „lower your expectations“ entsteht im ersten Jahr von Professor Gregor Schneider in München, der dafür sein gesamtes Klassenzimmer zur Verfügung stellt. "lower your expectations“ ist eine offizielle Kooperation zwischen der Akademie der Bildenden Künste und der Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film.
